I'm an interdisciplinary artist and researcher interested in the internet, technology, philosophy and Chinese cultural influence. I write about the internet—its phenomenology; cultural and political significance, and virtual milieux. Apart from critical internet research, my practice comments on, and amplifies the spectacles of hyperaccelerated internet-era life. Using primarily computer-aided and digital techniques, I make installations, objects, moving image and more.
I made two works on the Chinese internet sphere and technological advancements, wrote an essay about the transnational digital nostalgia of the Chinese Century for the Institute of Network Cultures, and participated in a talk about Chinese network cultures and network spirituality.
Recently, I finished my thesis on the role of algorithmically-driven internet in the crisis of cultural innovation. Drawing heavily on the philosophies of Grosz and Deleuze, the work critiques (contemporary) art for its tendency towards replication and advocates for a renewed art ontology, recognizing the unique yet underutilised quality of art to generate Differences and understand its potential in resisting cultural homogeneity.
Going forward, I am continuing my research on the relationship between the internet and cultural stagnation, focusing more closely on the philosophy of art, aiming to develop a comprehensive theoretical work on the topic. On the praxis side of my work, I am working on an installation and moving image work about molds, as a symbol of scientific absolutism, the illusion of universality, societies of control, and the flows of desire.
